Checkmate

ds509 - A Grid

Dog Blog Post #294: The Daily Shoot for today was...

Make a photograph that features a grid of some sort today.

The first thing that popped into my mind was a chess board, and for better or worse, I didn't explore anything else.

I shot this twice - once in the early afternoon...

... and once a few hours later with the black velvet background...

ds509 - Grid

... and I honestly wasn't very happy with the lighting/color in either case.

Why is it that I can go for days and be really happy with how things come out - the picture bright and clear, and then, for no apparent reason, the wheels fall off and everything either comes too blue (or red or yellow...)

Arg!

I'm shooting in the same place, and mostly at the same time of day.

Oh well, enough whining.

I did try to shoot the dogs together (doesn't that sound ominous!) but getting two big dogs around a big chess board and having it all fit in my little camera on my little set just wasn't happening.

Not sure if that's a Missing Skill, or a "just plain ain't happenin'" skill. :)

I chose the picture at the very top as my "Daily Shoot" shoot, because it looked the best in square thumbnail form, but I think the lighting/pose is marginally better in Zachary's shot.

Maybe.

Then again, I could be wrong. :)

I prefer the light in Zachary's shot and I love the pose. He really looks like he's pondering his next move:)

I'm of the mind that there is no right or wrong...it's just what you enjoy the most. Very nice!

Next weekend while I'm playing on this hop, I'll also be hosting one at my blog. I'd love to have you join in to help homeless bunny friends find furever homes. Check it out http://www.allthingsdogblog.com/2011/04/easter-rabbit-adoptathon-blog-hop.html

I think Henry's shot is cute, but I am more drawn to Zachary's this time. I think it's his pose that draws me, and the way his coat coloring compliments the chess pieces. I really liked that assignment, but I'm struggling with today's! Illustrate time? I have an idea for it, but I'm not sure how well it will work.

I think your pictures are great! It may just be your reaction to them, or the fact that you have an image in your head of what you want that you feel like you haven't captured. That doesn't mean that other people who look at it will have the same reaction, though, because they didn't have the same preconceived idea about how they wanted it to look. I thought the chess board for the assignment was very clever!

Oscar prefers to play checkers. Actually - he prefers to chew on them. Great photos!

Missing skill is training the dogs to hold a chess piece and make it look like they're actively doing a "move" in the game. :D

I love the first one. He seriously looks like he doesn't know which way to move. Totally cute.

I have gone to bed many time banging a big "L" on my forehead so frustrated with what I shot that day.

You are getting better in leaps and bounds and consequently getting pickier. Don't get frustrated, get even. If you get a chance, think about your image and try to re-shoot it. If nothing else, let it go and keep shooting.

Waht happened happens all the time.

Trust me. Been there done that.
