Dog Blog Post #1920

Uh Oh, looks like the boys are Lost in the Wilderness.

Photography Assignment

Daily Dog Challenge 1429. "Uh Oh"

Our Daily Challenge - Sep 30, 2015 - "Lost in the Wilderness"

FWIW: I created the background a while back by smearing/smudging the colors of a forest image around.

I rather liked the effect so I set it aside figuring it might come in handy some day.

Today was that day.

Along with the shots I took today of the boys catching (or not) Cookies.

Additional filters were applied to Zachary's version (in Photoshop Elements) just for the fun of it.

Original Images

Ok... not quite original. I added a quick exposure mask to the bottom of the image in Lightroom, effecting making the dogs the only thing in the picture.

I could have masked it completely in Photoshop Elements, but I think it was faster this way.

That Was Easy

Remember what to do with this, Zachary?

That Was Easy
Zachary: "Like this?"

Now push!

That Was Easy
"That Was Easy"

Dog Blog Post #1918

Zachary reminds us to Keep It Simple.

.. with an Easy Button.

Zachary will slap the button on cue - something he must find quite rewarding as he does it with gusto.

Unfortunately, trying to capture that action "live" is definitely NOT simple - so you get the posed version.

Cheer Up Henry
Poor Henry

He just watched the KC Chiefs get annihilated by the GB Packers on Monday Night Football.

Yes, I know the score was respectable (28-38) but let's face it, nobody who watched that game can honestly say the Chiefs were ever really in it.

Or even had a chance.

And the 49ers play the Packers next.

Oh dear.

Dog Blog Post #1917

And I thought last week's 18-43 loss to the Steelers was bad.

Today's loss - 7-47 vs. the Cardinals - was more than enough to Crush the boys' spirits.

Proper Greeting

My idea of a proper greeting...

Polite Puppy
Henry, being a very good boy

My boys' idea of a proper greeting...

Hurry Up!
Zachary: "Mom!"

Proper Greeting?
Hi-Yo Zachary!

Proper Greeting?
Henry the Rabbit?

Dog Blog Post #1916

The boys actually have very good greeting skills - at least for us, their peeps.

They are also well behaved when greeting people outside the house, say on a walk.

Their manners slip a bit (cough) when greeting non-family members inside the house, as we don't entertain very often and they are VERY excited to welcome people into the house.

Daily Dog Challenge 1426. "A Proper Greeting"

Proper Greeting?
Zachary - being goofy (or possibly eating the Cookie I tossed at him to get him to jump up)

Slider Sunday

Played around with sliders and filters, but couldn't find something that I liked that seemed to fit the challenges...

Proper Greeting?
Photoshopped

Proper Greeting?
Lightroomed

The Photoshopped shot had more things done to it than I can recall, although the basic idea was to skip over the Photoshop Elements and invert the image (which turned black to white and my golden dog to blue) then correct the color as much as possible (turning blue dog back to yellow) then return to Lightroom to clean up the black speckles created by the inversion as well as improve the contrast and clarity.

The Lightroomed shot is a combination of slider pushing (contrast, black, white, clarity, saturation...) which I have developed over time to create something pleasing to me in an artsy way, and then saved as a preset so I can simply select it from a list.

I really like how it accentuates Henry's "Bed Head" coat, which really does look like that - especially across his back - more so than it appears in a "normal" image.

Today's props were supposed to be accompanied by a bottle of wine (empty).

But as Henry's tail sent one of the (plastic) wine glasses bouncing across the floor during setup, I opted to pass on the real glass.

Orange

Some posts make less sense than others.

I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure which side of the spectrum today's post lies.

Daily Dog Challenge 1424. "Best of Seven"

I interpreted that as seven pictures per dog.

Dog with Lacrosse Balls
Zachary: "... 22... 23... 24..."

Note to Mom: The Village People is a Disco band made famous in the late 70's for singing "Y.M.C.A." and dressing in costume, including a native american in a feathered headdress and a construction worker - hence my reference, above.

The song is still played at sporting events (like the 7th inning stretch) due to the aerobic dance associated with it as the fans spell out Y M C A with their arms.

Moody Goldens?

Alright guys, today's a toughie.

I need you to look "Moody".

Moody Goldens?
Zachary: (sigh)

That's good! Great emotion!

Now let's try it with props.

Moody Goldens?
The most interesting dog in the world...

Moody Goldens?
... needs a slightly smaller hat.

Moody Goldens?
Henry: (sniff)

Moody Goldens?
Henry: "Empty."

Yes, I know The Most Interesting Dog in the World should be drinking Dos Equis Beer, but as I don't (and beer didn't feel "moody" to me, anyway) Jack Daniel's will have to do.

I don't actually drink Jack Daniel's, either.

I bought it to try a recipe for TGIF's Pulled Pork Dipping Sauce that I found online.

I also picked up a small bottle of Tabasco Sauce (not touched since) and a vat of White Grape Juice (that took me three grocery stores to find) as well.

The recipe took an hour to make.

The results were awful and went immediately down the sink.

The bottle of Whiskey remains.

It is quite possibly older than either dog.

Dog Blog Post #1913

Sleepy? We can do that.

Bored? No problem.

But as the boys are actually quite cheery in nature (they are Golden Retrievers, after all) we must lean heavily on props and/or lighting to have any hope of making a Moody shot.

Dog Holding Burger

Dog Holding Burger
Henry holding a Cheesy-Burger

Dog Blog Post #1911

Blame Hubby for this one - he wondered if I could get a shot of a dog holding a burger.

Score one for The Wife!

Yes, Henry is a very, VERY good boy.

I took a couple shots then removed the burger and split it in half to share with Zachary.

No, I didn't try with this with Zachary - mostly because I didn't want Henry to have to wait for his reward (half) after being such a good boy, as I only had one burger.

Yes, I'd already taken an alternate shot (see below) just in case the prop didn't survive.
