The Dark Side

Dark Values - Henry

Dog Blog Post #377: No, the picture above was not the winning/tweeted shot for today's Daily Shoot assignment of...

Make a photograph today dominated by dark values.

... but it was certainly the most colorful!

I created it in Aperture 3, using the Curves feature, and I have absolutely no idea what I was doing nor why someone would want to use such a feature. I pulled the line up (making a sine wave hump) and I pulled it down (full sine wave) and I pulled it up again... etc. and that's what I ended up with!

The picture I tweeted basically started life as shown below...

Dark Values - Henry

(which I probably should have tweeted, as it's grown on me over time to become my favorite. Will I ever get batter at this "which one should I pick" stuff???)

And then got sharpened...

And finally had some exposure/shadow tweekage....

And that's the one I tweeted.

Is that cheating? :)

Nope, not cheating at all! The differences between them are subtle. I don't think you could have chosen a bad one from the group as it pertains to the assignment.

I have an idea for the tool shot, but it seems like a guarantee that after I shoot this that something like technology will come up for tomorrow if I do!
