No Horizons

Booooring

Dog Blog Post #325: Wow, what a great Daily Shoot assignment for experimenting with a new camera...

Make a photograph with no obvious horizon.

... as you could do pretty much anything. So I grabbed Baby (aka New Toy), some cookies, and headed outside with the boys leading the way. When the the dogs hit the path and I had them sit, stay, and then I looked down at them through the viewfinder...

Hmm... not bad, but they could fill up the picture a bit better. With great confidence, I gave the zoom ring a twist and looked again, only to find a giant eyeball staring up at me.

Yikes!

So I took a few steps back, and tried again.

Hmmm... just a bit bigger.... Yikes! giant eyeball (step back) Hmmm... just a bit bigger... Yikes! giant eyeball (step back.)

Lather, Rinse, Repeat

Soon I was well over a dozen feet away, the dogs were throwing daggers at me with their eyes since there had been no cookies produced during all this, when Henry decided to let me know he was stressed with a giant yawn.

Cool! So without thinking, I looked through the viewfinder and pressed the button.

And the picture at the top of this post was born.

And now we get to one area where I immediately noticed the point-n-shoot was woefully lacking compared to the new Nikon: Response time. Between the time you push the button and the time the picture is taken, using my point-n-shoot, is a depressingly long time. That yawn would have been long over before the image was ever recorded!

But today, as I stood on the path ad watched Henry begin his Great Big Yawn, I pointed the camera at him and pushed the button...

... and the camera instantly went....

And I was pleased. :)

Today's (dog) Scavenger Challenge item #11 - "Pair 'em up - salt and pepper, cheese and chalk, mix or match."

And while I'm not purposely trying to use the dog for these items, I just couldn't resist...

Why so Serious?

Title? "Why so Serious?" :)

... and then there's the alternate:

The Happy Couple

aka "The Happy Couple".

And finally, a (seemingly) obligatory flower shot - this one for #13 - "Branch out with a twig, sprig or limb. Bonus points for blossoms."

I just loving shooting with the late afternoon sun, don't you?

I'm still giggling over that yawn picture! It's a great capture!

I love the portraits of the boys together, too! I don't think I could pick a favorite. There is nothing wrong with flower shots, either! We have to get them while we can!

I expect to see great things from you. The DSLR is no different from the point and shoot when it comes to talent, you'll rock it.

I love the second image of the boys.

Yay, Blogger is working again and I can comment! Love all your photos with your new camera, you're going to have SO much fun:) And so are we seeing what you produce. Yes, the time lag can be frustrating with the point and shoots, especially when trying to get moving shots. Looking forward to seeing some action shots of the boys:)
