Self-Control

ds481 - RandomnessDog Blog Post #263:The Daily Shoot assignment...

Make a photograph that illustrates randomness in some way today.

... actually had nothing to do with self-control, but as this is supposed to be dog training blog, and getting this picture had everything to do with self-control, it seemed an appropriate post title.

So, how did I get this picture? I cued Zachary to lay down, said "Leave it!", and spread kibble (yes, that really is his kibble - his lunch, to be exact) around him on the floor.

Yes, just like that.

No, I didn't do anything else.

Yes, he stayed that way through several pictures, switching the camera from horizontal to vertical layout (it was on the tripod as the lighting was marginal), daddy coming home and giving a wild greeting to Henry (whom you will note is conspicuously absent from the shot as there's now way in h*ll that he would have ignored the kibble for that long with me standing several feet away!) and me deciding the canister was too far away and compressing the whole thing and staring over.

Whew!

When I was happy, I gathered most of it up and put it in his bowl, but let him eat about 1/4 of it right then and there. I figured he'd deserved it!

The alternate picture is shown below...

... and is Henry fur. I actually like this one a lot better, as a picture, but figured people would get a bigger kick out of the Zachary and Kibble shot.  :)

I'm not sure which one I like better! They're both really different and both show the idea of something random really well!

Sheesh, that is one good boy.

I like the random fur, very cool texture.

You have good self-control, Zach. Now try holding a piece of deliciously good, raw meat in your mouth. It is SO difficult, I tell you. We've been through this torture MANY times & hoomie Melissa just enjoys seeing us suffering by holding tasty food in our mouth until she gives us the OK command.

Wow, two very impressive photos for different reasons.

How long did it take you to work up to the kibble behavior with Zachary?

I can just see how Zach is concentrating HARD on that "leave it" command. Yay Zachary!!

I do love the second picture too of Henry's fur. It shows the pureness and texture of the hair strands.

I like the kibble shot a lot! I am pretty sure I could never convince Bella to do that, however. :)
