Hits and Misses

Dog Blog Post #232: Glad folks enjoyed yesterday's Wordless Wednesday pictures! It was a fun assignment, mostly because the boys seem to know what was expected of them, were happy to do it, and I liked the results (my favorite was also the bottom shot, and Zachary really was napping by then!)

To answer a few questions:

Sugar the Golden Retriever: That isn't quite the camera I use, but close. The camera in the picture was my first digital camera, a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50, and now my hubbies "backpacking" camera (hence the grungy camera strap.) The camera taking the picture is my trusty Sony Cybor-shot DSC-W55, bought a year later. Within a mega pixel, they are essentially the same camera.

If you know how to read the symbols on the display, then the setup of the camera you see is the setup I use most often (plus or minus Macro Mode, depending on distance) but minus the flash which I almost never use.  I rarely take action pictures, as I haven't found the camera to be particularly good at that - or else I'm not particularly good at taking them with the camera! The except is the bitey-face shots, and for those (in house) I do use a flash and never use macro-mode as the camera is too slow in that mode to get the shot.

HoundDogMom: Tips? Hmm... I don't know enough about taking pictures to give tips! But if I think of one I'll be sure and pass it on - to be used with a hefty grain of salt!

Ok... here's a tip - once you get things set up, takes lots of pictures. The more you take, the more you have to choose from to find a good one. I'm finding I take a picture every 15 - 30 seconds, and I give a treat to the dogs after every picture, assuming I'm close enough. With 30-60 pictures to choose from, I can usually find at least one that's respectable!

Today's Daily Shoot assignment:

Make a photograph that features a leading line through it today. Draw the viewers eye through the image.

Had to google this one to figure out what they wanted. Basically, it's what it says. A linear element that draws your eye to something.

This should have been easy, and I had several ideas, but none of them came out that great. Lighting was a problem (again), as was the fact that Henry's stay is iffy if I'm more than a few feet away.

My favorite picture is at the top of the post, but I'm not sure it really met the criteria of a "leading line".  (tip: he's looking at the treats tucked under the bristles of the brush. I had to be fast with the picture, as at that distance, his "Leave It!" is still rather iffy!)

My next favorite was the one in the middle of the post, but I wasn't sure people would know what it was. The one I uploaded is below, but I'm not really sure you would call it a "line" - more like an upside-down Y.

Oh well, it's over and done with, and tomorrow dawns a fresh assignment!

Missing Skill of the Day? Henry's stays from a distance. Ugh.

Good Dog Moment? Zachary's stay from a distance (6' to be exact) particularly since I wasn't treating after every shot (didn't want to get up from floor, walk over, give treat, walk back, lay down on floor, take another picture, get up, ...)

What a good boy!

Woof! Woof! Lots of Golden Thanks. Many of mom friends recommended to switch to Cannon but she loves her Sony. She currently have the DSC-W200 12.1 megapixel. Features of the camera is great ... I guess she should take some classes. Golden Thanks ... for your teaching posts. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

When I'm trying for a shot, I take a lot of them to try to get a good one, too. I also try to make the most of my light, which is easier said than done. My favorite today is the middle one, and I knew what it was! Wooo!

I also try to take a bunch of pictures at once too to get a good shot. I especially like the lacrosse stick shot.

I love my Sony Cybershot. These daily training and photshoots are such an inspiration! I think Kolchak and I might take a swing at Saturday's assignment, whatever it might be...
