Daily Dog Challenge "506. Out of Frame"

While I ultimately went with the shot of Zachary, above, basking in the waning light, an interesting assortment of characters came out after darkness fell.

The Swell

First, there appeared this gentleman, looking rather too fine to be hanging around this part of town...

Night Life?

Down on His Luck

... then this poor fellow came around, with nary a hat to his name...

Night Watch

The Inspector

There must be something afoot, for soon after the Inspector entered the scene, sniffing for clues...

Inspector Zachary

Detective Henry

... followed by Detective Henry.

Can there be any doubt that Kitty, the elusive Cat Burglar, is somehow involved?

Detective Henry

Deep Thoughts

Deep Thought

Dog Blog Post #996

Daily Dog Challenge "505. Capture the Personality"

Henry is a much more relaxed dog than Zachary, and is more than happy to wait patiently for what he wants.

Here he's caught in a moment of deep...

Our Daily Challenge - Mar 19, 2013 - "Reflection"

... while I was putting the camera gear away. What's he reflecting on?

Perhaps his chances of getting Zachary to play with him and that empty box he's been carrying around most the evening.

(hint: poor)

Or the probability of me giving him Cookies after I finish taking his picture.

(hint: excellent)

I guess we'll never know.

On the Wild Side

Bitey-Face
"Arrrrrrggggg"

Bitey-Face
Fearsome Face

Bitey-Face
"Ooooppphhhhh"

Bitey-Face
"Hehehehehehe"

Bitey-Face
"Ppfthpfthththt"

Was hoping for a reflection but it wasn't meant to be. Looks like it's time to mop the floor again.

(sigh)

Sitting Pretty in High Key

Sitting Pretty
Henry: "Oh woe is me... nobody loves me."

Don't be a silly boy, of course we love you!

Sitting Pretty
Henry: "Not a Cookie in sight."
(sigh)

Well if you'd lift your head up and smile I'd give you lots of Cookies."

Sitting Pretty
"Cheesy Burgers!"

What a good boy.

Fun with sliders, with the boys…

Daily Dog Challenge "504. Sitting Pretty"

… on the sofa.

Our Daily Challenge - Mar 18, 2013 - "High Key"

Sitting Pretty
Zachary: "Oh woe is me... I never get to go first."

Oh don't you start, and you never want to go first. You'd rather snarf up a handful of free Cookies while Henry goes first.

Sitting Pretty

Ahem... I pay for smiles, not attitude.

Sitting Pretty
Zachary: "Hey, I get to be in color!"

Much better!

Editor's Note

Ok... I admit it... a little attitude makes for better blogging, but don't tell these two or I'll never get any work out of them!

Behind the Scenes

I actually took a picture of today's setup as I had the nifty-fifty lens on and could get the whole room in the picture.

Alas, I didn't realize quite how cluttered the family room had become and now I'm too embarrassed to show it. Oh well, it wasn't that exciting anyway.

The backdrop was the white fleece held up on the backdrop frame raised well above my head and at 3/4 width. This created the "wall" behind the boys (and obscured the camera gear that you would otherwise see.)

I then tossed more white fabric over the leather sofa, added a dog, and a white cowboy hat.

I had the umbrella and flash front-right, and the reflector front-left held in place by my old aluminum tripod - as there is no fridge to clamp it to in the middle of the living room.  In a perfect world I would have had the flash more centered, but that created nasty shadows on my "wall" since I couldn't get things far enough away from each other ("wall", dog, flash, camera) when in that location.

When you see the boys looking down, I'm lying on the floor (with Cookies).

When you see them looking up, I'm standing (with Cookies).

The rest was done in Aperture 3, fiddling with sliders until I liked what I saw.
